Sporting Dogs: American Water Spaniel And Clumber Spaniel
Two Spaniels of the Sporting group of dogs: one is American and the other is English.
American Water Spaniel
Aptly named, the American Water Spaniel is a true native, bred as a water retriever and an all-around shooting dog with a keen nose.Although his ancestries are obscure, his color, coat, and conformation indicate that he may have been bred from crosses of Irish and English Water Spaniels and Curly-Coated Retrievers. He is sturdily made, of medium size, and his profile displays a symmetrical relationship of parts. His skull is quite broad and full, muzzle deep and square, eyes wide-set (hazel, brown,), long ears falling close and clothed with curls. The feathered tail curls in a slight rocker-like shape, while the weather-resistant coat is compact and tightly curled.

The Clumber is the heaviest English sporting spaniels, named after Clumber Park, the Duke of Newcastle's estate in Nottingham. He is a dignified dog, long-bodied, heavy-boned, and low to the ground.
