A well-organized and well-planned garage sale is more attractive and it allows shoppers to easily see what you are putting up for sale.
After sorting through your items and picked out what you will be placing in your yard sale, take time to sit down and think about how you would like to organize your items. Categorize your items, because it manifests your hard work and care in preparing your sale. Keep a close eye on important matters throughout the day, for you’ll need to re-sort and re-categorize your things as they sell.
You could sort things into boxes as you
do your initial sorting. Supermarkets, liquor stores and dollar stores always have a lot of empty cargo boxes, and they’re generally free for the taking. Gather various sizes to contain different items.Bring a box with you as you survey your house and your possessions. Put your unwanted items in the box until it is full. Choose a central area or room in your house to organize your sale items. Proceed with this method until you’ve sorted out all your belongings in both your house and garage. Don’t forget to go through your sheds, drawers, cupboards, closets, and your pantry. Remember to check your attic
or basement, too.After gathering all your items you plan to put up for sale, sort and group them into categories for your sale. You may also price them by category. Periodically during your sale, place items that aren’t sold yet to another table or gather them on one table. However, do not do this when you have lots of people around. If you observe certain categories of items are not selling as good as the rest, you could consider adjusting your prices or move them nearer to the entryway of your selling area so they can be more visible to those who drive by to see what items you have to offer.
When your sale is over, don’t bring the items back in your house. Contact your local charity missions or thrift store and make arrangements to donate the remaining items. Most groups will be pleased to arrange a pickup time to drop by and haul your things. They can even give you a receipt which you can use for a deduction.
